this morning i craftily avoided going to church with gramma by sleeping in until noon. yesterday i craftily avoided discussing it by changing the topic. but today she comes home with a CD of the sermon! bonus patriotic edition. this, accompanied by a brochure highlighting the core beliefs of seventh-day-adventists. i'm listening to the CD right now, so i won't get kicked out. highlights: battle hymn of the republic and "thank god paul wrote letters and didn't have one of these apple cell phones, because then we wouldn't have half the new testament."
then, she asks me point blank if i believe in the bible.
"um... i think it's very difficult interpret...
...it's, um, uh, a very complicated document."
"something in there for everybody!"
i suppose it wouldn't be useful to say that i have indeed read the bible and am quite familiar with the tenets of adventism, but that i really just have no use for any of it, no matter how many brochures or CD's she gives me.
well, gramma was right about one thing, the christian rock does suck. |

well part of the reason i havent been on lj so much is that my computer broke :-(
so right now i'm at an internet cafe in Eagle Rock. Who knew? I didn't. People play really loud video games with lots of explosions. Is that actually entertaining? This guy near me is criticizing catcher in the rye on account of its "poor grammar." Who knew? I didn't.
Oxy's library closes at five, which is like right when I get off work and the public libraries in LA are a huge nightmare! You have to wait like two hours for a computer, and then the system will randomly cancel your reservation, and then you only get 45 minutes anyway, and the whole day is wasted!
why am i spending so much time griping about not having instant internet gratification whenever i so crave? because i'm addicted!!!!!!!!!
so the reason why i started this thing so many years ago was because of vicky. and now she never, ever posts anymore. and not many others really do either. but, my little eljay, you've been good to me. i was recently asked why i still use eljay now that myspace is "so much better." because eljay doesn't send me friend requests from the foulest webcam girls ever!
i've been avoiding the news for the past few weeks. what has happened to me? |

well, my mom just left town this morning.
we watched the pride parade yesterday.
she urged me once again to avoid aids.
yikes.
i think i liked the one in buffalo better.
it just seemed like people weren't so over it.
then i went to an awkward gay pool party where i cut my finger on a bottle right after i got there.
my sister and dad left last week.
this has been a lot of family time.
other than that i've been working (sort of), listening to my gramma talk about people who are long dead, trying to remember the past three weeks, reading four books at once, watching obscene amounts of reality TV, and going through internet withdrawal because my computer is broken again!!
maybe i'll feel differently once i start having serious obligations again, but i still love this city. it's so exciting and ugly and beautiful. and at the moment i am able to manage my time in a manner that allows me to avoid rush hour (s and hours).
in case you haven't heard, im living in the hills with my gramma. ill prob never be able to afford to live in a place like this again, but it's certainly an adjustment. it will be nice to get a place of my own, but my potential housemates all seem to be getting pets!!
also, i feel sorry for anyone who missed my fabulous karaoke bday spectacular. |
